Most of the small dishes up to about 150mm in diameter are ashtrays, they are often called 'pin dishes'. Smokers and sewing are also less common than they were in 1950's Britain. Good decorative plates are not common. I have few and you should really see the book for better examples. The larger plates and dishes were thrown, while some of the smaller items such as the 1953 ashtrays were moulded. This allowed mass production of an identical product which is useful for large orders and speed of production.
