Briglin Pottery fluted vase – malcolm bishop 1935

This is an unmarked piece but has a period label on the base that reads “malcolm bishop ltd – south king street – (18 price?) blackfriars 1935″

It transpires that this is from a retailer in Manchester – Founded in 1956 they are now dissolved. Briglin was sold though upper class retailers like Heals and John Lewis so it does make some sense. Very odd that this label has lasted all these years.

Blackfriars 1935 is not a date as I assumed but probably a phone number.

The piece itself is very sweet. Combing and bands like a snake. Good detailing around the bulb at the top. Just enough randomness to make it pleasing to the eye.
