Briglin Pottery large England ashtray

Ashtrays were all the rage in the sixties – everyone smoked. This textured England Briglin ashtray is a really good example.

It would have looked amazing on a mahogany coffee table with the sunlight falling across it fifty years ago when it was new.

A plain black manganese oxide rim is contrasted by vertical texture of the external decoration. The inside has a silky pale blue glaze speckled with watery brown dots. The colour reminds me of birds eggs.
