Briglin Pottery tall incised leaf vase

There are a lot of these about. This one is nicely decorated with a very sharp and crisp leaf pattern. Decisive and speedy strokes have carved the leaves with a sharp implement. The ground is the typical off white / brown glaze. The leaf pattern is then washed with manganese oxide black and wiped off the upper leaf to give the red clay on the raised leaf.

I like the small contrasting dots of white glaze but these were probably a mistake.

Very, very typical of Briglin Pottery.Late.

[Seen a similar patterned Briglin fruit bowl go on eBay dated 1974 – and this seems about right]
